Berthen ( Dutch : Berten ) is a French municipality with 551 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque , the Canton of Bailleul (until 2015: Canton Bailleul-Sud-Ouest ) and the Flandre Intérieure municipal association . The inhabitants are called Berthenois .

geography

Berthen is located near the Belgian border in the former French Flanders , in the far north of France. Berthen is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Boeschepe in the north and east, Saint-Jans-Cappel in the south-east, Méteren in the south and west and Godewaersvelde in the north-west.

To the northwest is the Mont des Cats .
