Bambecque , Dutch Bambeke is a French municipality with 770 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque and the municipality of Hauts de Flandre . West Flemish is also spoken in Bambecque .

geography

The municipality of Bambecque is located on the Yser in French Flanders , about 20 kilometers southeast of Dunkerque (Dunkirk) in the far north of France. The municipality borders on Belgium to the east (municipalities of Alveringem and Poperinge).

The district of Kruystraete belongs to Bambecque .

The neighboring communities of Bambecque are Rexpoëde in the north, Oost-Cappel and Alveringem in the northeast, Poperinge in the east, Houtkerque in the southeast, Herzeele in the south, Wormhout in the southwest and West-Cappel in the northwest.

A windmill originally from Bambecque is now in the Mill Museum in Villeneuve-d'Ascq .

Economy and Infrastructure

There are 31 farms in the municipality (cultivation of grain, pulses, oilseeds and tobacco, poultry farming, pig farming).

In the neighboring municipality of Herzeele there is a connection to the A25 autoroute ( Dunkerque - Lille ). Esquelbecq train station, twelve kilometers to the west, is on the Arras- Dunkerque railway line .
