geography

Location of Boeschepe in the Dunkerque arrondissement

The municipality of Boeschepe is located in French Flanders in the far north of France, roughly halfway between the cities of Dunkerque and Lille . The municipality borders on Belgium to the north and east (municipalities Poperinge and Heuvelland). The predominantly flat northern part of the municipality is crossed by the rivers Vlietbeek and Winterbeek , which drain towards the north to the Yser . In the south and east there are three prominent peaks of the West Flemish hill country ( West-Vlaams Heuvelland / Monts des Flandres ): the 139 m high Boeschepeberg (Mont de Boeschepe), the 125 m high Kokereelberg (Mont Kokereel) and the 152 m high Zwarteberg ( Mont Noir). The Zeugenberge form a ridge that separates the basins of the Yser ( IJzer) in the north from the basin of the Leie ( Lys ) in the south.

In addition to the closed settlement image of the core town, there are numerous scattered individual farms in the municipality as well as the hamlets and districts of Abeele (French part of the town of Abele that continues to Belgium ), Confiscatie, Les Cinq Chemins Verts, Mont Kokereel, Oost Houck and Steen Acker .

Neighboring communities of Boeschepe are Poperinge in the north, Heuvelland in the east, Saint-Jans-Cappel in the southeast, Berthen in the south and Godewaersvelde in the west.
