Bourbourg ( NDL. : Broekburg ) is a French municipality with 7097 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque and the Canton of Grande-Synthe .
history
The name comes from the Flemish Broec borg , d. H. City in the swamp (1035: Brucburgh , 1309: Brouborgh ). The first traces of the place can be found in the cartular of Ghent Abbey.
In 1790 Bourbourg was divided into Bourbourg-Ville and Bourbourg-Campagne at the request of the more rural districts. The reunification of the two communities did not take place until after 1945.
