Mairie Ghyvelde

Ghyvelde ( Dutch Gijvelde ) is a French municipality with 4193 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France near Dunkirk .

The eastern municipal boundary also represents the state border with Belgium . On January 1, 2016, the formerly independent municipality of Les Moëres was incorporated.

The site was 92% destroyed in the Battle of Dunkirk and other fighting during World War II.

The Écomusée du Bommelaers-Wall in Ghyvelde is a museum that presents the history of rural life on the Flemish coast.

The nature reserve of the fossil dunes of Ghyvelde stretches east from Ghyvelde to the Belgian border, made accessible by an eight-kilometer circular hiking trail .
