Houtkerque , West Flemish Outkerke ; Dutch Houtkerke , is a French municipality with 994 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dunkerque and the Flandre Intérieure municipality .

geography

The municipality of Houtkerque is located in French Flanders in the far north of France, about 25 kilometers southeast of Dunkerque and 20 kilometers west of Ypres (Belgium). In the east the municipality borders on Belgium (municipality Poperinge), the river Yser forms the northern municipality boundary.

In addition to the closed settlement image of the core town, there are numerous scattered individual farms in the municipal area of ​​Houtkerque.

Neighboring communities of Houtkerque are Bambecque in the north, Poperinge in the east, Winnezeele in the south and Herzeele in the west.
