Atrium of the Teutonic Order Hospital

The Teutonic Order Hospital in Friesach ( Carinthia ) is the former commons building of the order of the same name. Currently, it is used as part of a hospital of the rule supply used.

history

In 1203 the Magdalen Hospital in Friesach was given to the Teutonic Order by Archbishop Eberhard II of Salzburg . As a result, the order moved the hospital to its current location before 1275. After fire disasters in 1461 and 1582, to which the house and the religious order fell victim, the reconstruction took place, last not until 1612, whereby only a small number of the sick and poor were admitted. In 1880 the renovated hospital reopened, after which the sick were given pastoral and medical care free of charge.

The Teutonic Order Hospital is now partially under monument protection ( list entry ), whereby the order house and the former commander building were placed under protection.

Current usage

The building is currently part of a hospital with around 200 beds and the specialist departments of internal medicine , (accident) surgery , radiology , anesthesia and intensive care medicine , which are usually part of the standard care . The hospital is operated by the "A. Ö. Hospital of the Teutonic Order Friesach GmbH".

Building history

The building partly goes back to the medieval future building. In the early 17th century the building was completely renovated under Gottfried von Schrattenbach . Today's appearance of the religious house is mainly due to the 1,890 conducted by Heinrich Wagner Gründerzeit back remodeling. In 1937 the core building was increased, and in the 1960s new wings were added to the south and north.

description

The outer facades have a neo-Gothic wall structure with covered, ornamented wall pillars and a cranked cornice . The former knight's hall was converted into a chapel and a dining room. In the inner courtyard under the upper storey arcades there are three stone inscription panels: the first from 1614 next to three coats of arms with crest, the second from 1653 and the third with three different Teutonic coats of arms with cartilage decoration and a crowning putto head and a banner from 1673.

Artistic equipment

In the connecting passage to the gallery to the church there is a painting of the Madonna with donors from 1627 and a picture of the judge of the world with donor Gabriel Kreyzer from 1546. In the chapel there is a picture of Mary Queen of Heaven from the beginning of the 18th century and one from 1520/1530 painted panel of St. Dionysius . In the dining room there is an altar wing with the representation of God the Father and saints from the third quarter of the 15th century and a scene from around 1480 on the Mount of Olives on the back. There are also console figures of a late Gothic Archangel Michael and an early Baroque Queen of Heaven from the first half of the 17th century in the dining room . The late Gothic relief in front of the dining room door probably shows Saint Rochus . In the corridor to the cloister there is a memorial on wood created in 1546 for Gabriel Kreuzer († 1568).
