Zombieworld (Original: ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction ) is an American horror film with splatter elements and bizarre situation comedy by director Kevin Hamedani .

Hamedani's feature film debut was first released in the United States on April 18, 2009, and the German DVD release date was April 30, 2010.

action

In Port Gamble , a small coastal community in the US state of Washington , a fatal epidemic breaks out when the undead washed up. The bloodthirsty revenant, a largely mindless zombie who transmits a virus through bites, subsequently attacks the living. The victims mutate into zombies. The local population initially takes no notice of this.

The half-Iranian Frida, who was born in the United States and whose ultra-conservative father runs an Iranian restaurant, is returning to Port Gamble after dropping out of college. Despite her father's misgivings, the attractive returnees made an appointment on the first evening with an untalented musician whom she met at the nearby cemetery. For Frida's lover, however, the romantic rendezvous ends in death when their car is attacked by meat-hungry creatures. Frida escapes in dire need. She fled to a neighboring family, the Millers, who initially gave her a safe haven. When the crazy landlord unjustifiably suspects the person seeking protection of terrorism because she is of Islamic origin, an ordeal begins for the half-Iranian. She is mistreated and tortured. The intimidated son finally helps her escape.

In a parallel storyline, Tom and his partner Lance also return to the tranquil town to reveal Tom's old-fashioned mother about her homosexuality . In the middle of the coming-out, however, Tom's mother mutates into a zombie. The couple escapes the bizarre situation by taking refuge in a nearby church. Once there - in the meantime the zombie plague is considered the result of a terrorist attack - they meet around a dozen churchgoers, including Mayor Burton, mayor candidate Banks and Reverend Haggis. The clergyman railed against all sinners in this world, but without organizing a makeshift defense. Later he tries to lead homosexuals, the "enemies of God", back to the path of virtue in a conversion room.

The four protagonists, Frida, Tom, Lance and Banks, finally meet in front of the church. They are rescued by the military and released from quarantine 29 weeks later . In the end, Banks is the new mayor and Frida is the owner of an Iranian restaurant.

History of origin

Despite having the same English title, Zombieworld has no relation to the comic series ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction by the American author Kevin Grevioux .

criticism

The US online magazine IGN Entertainment described Zombieworld as a "cranky low-budget production". The magazine praised the fact that, unlike many other films in the genre , Zombieworld had a plot, moral positioning and ideas, as well as elaborate character drawings and varied gore effects. On the other hand, the sound mix, some actors and their "wooden" way of playing were criticized. Overall, Zombiworld is a "consistently funny film" and unsubtle in a positive sense.
