The Vörder See is a shallow lake in the north of the city of Bremervörde in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony .
location and size
The lake is located in the center of the Elbe-Weser triangle in the north of Bremervörde in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district . It lies in the Geest lowlands of the Stader and Zevener Geest at an altitude of about three meters above sea level . The Oste runs east of the lake .
history
In the past, where the lake is now, there were acidic meadows with poor soil quality - due to the former course of the Oste there - and sandy subsoil. When the farmers gradually gave up the difficult cultivation of the meadows, the Bremen city council came up with the brilliant idea in 1968 to rinse out the meadow area and turn it into a water sports area. The original idea for the lake came from the former head of the building authority for the city of Bremervörde, Hans-Dieter Dücker.
After initial planning in 1968, the area of today's lake was dredged from 1972 to 1982 and released as the center of the Bremervörde nature and adventure park in the same year . At that time also the cubic meters from 25.1 million Spülsand was the dredged lake existing Ostedeich with which the lake via a sluice with dam is connected to the Oste, to keep it at a constant level. Until the completion of the lake, which is rich in bays, in 1978, the project cost around 3 million German marks .
In 1991, the area around the lake was finally equipped with new bank and green areas for the Lower Saxony state exhibition on nature in urban development .
meaning
The lake offers excellent opportunities for sailing , rowing , surfing and fishing . On the southern bank there is a spacious playground with seating, a mini golf course and a kiosk with pedal boat rental . The lake offers ideal conditions for swimming thanks to its shallow water. There is a DLRG observation tower next to the jetty on the south-east bank . There is no permanent monitoring. The water quality is not examined.
