Aniche ( Dutch : Anik ) is a French municipality with 10,244 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Since the reorganization of the French cantons in 2015, the municipality has been the capital of the newly created canton Aniche .

geography

Aniche is located in the Ostervant countryside and is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Bruille-lez-Marchiennes in the north, Abscon in the northeast and east, Mastaing in the southeast, Émerchicourt in the south and southwest and Auberchicourt in the west and northwest. The community lies on a seismic rift. In December 1893 there was an earthquake.

history

In 1103 the place is first mentioned as Anic . During the Hundred Years War , the place sided with the English and was then conquered by the people of Douai , who were connected to France .
