Auby (NDL .: "Aubig") is a French municipality with 7274 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Auby belongs to the Arrondissement of Douai and the Canton of Orchies . The inhabitants are called the Aubygeois .
geography
Auby is located in the northern French coal basin on the Deûle river , which was canalized here for shipping and is part of the major shipping route Dunkirk-Schelde . Auby is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Leforest in the north, Raimbeaucourt in the northeast, Roost-Warendin in the east, Flers-en-Escrebieux in the south, Corcelles-lès-Lens in the west and Évin-Malmaison in the north-west. The A21 autoroute runs through the municipality .
history
The town of Auby was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The name forms change between Albieum via Albi to Oby . The rise and fall of the small town of Auby are linked to coal mining.
