Nyrstar is one of the world's largest producers of fine zinc and one of the largest producers of primary lead, with its headquarters in Balen and its operational headquarters in Zurich .
history
Nyrstar was founded on August 31, 2007 through the merger of the zinc smelting activities of the Belgian Umicore and the zinc and lead smelting activities of the Australian Zinifex .
On October 29, 2007, Nyrstar was first listed on the Euronext stock exchange in Brussels via a new issue. The company was listed in the BEL20 share index from March 4, 2008 to March 3, 2009 and again from June 20, 2011 to March 18, 2013 .
Products
Nyrstar mainly manufactures zinc and lead alloys. Zinc alloys are used in industry for galvanizing steel parts (strip galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing ) and for the production of zinc die-castings . Lead is mainly used in the production of batteries .
Production sites
The production sites are in Australia ( Hobart , Port Pirie), Belgium (Balen, Overpelt), France (Auby), the Netherlands ( Budel ), Norway ( Høyanger ) and the USA ( Clarksville , Tennessee) and the mines exclusively in North America, with two mines each in Tennessee and Canada.
