Flers-en-Escrebieux (NDL .: "Laar") is a French municipality with 5856 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Flers-en-Escrebieux belongs to the arrondissement of Douai and the canton of Douai . The inhabitants are called Flersois .

The community consists of the districts of Flers , Pont de la Deule and Villers .

geography

Flers-en-Escrebieux is located in the northern French coal mining area on the rivers Escrebieux and Deûle , which was canalized here for shipping and belongs to the major shipping route Dunkirk-Scheldt . Flers-en-Escrebieux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Auby in the north, Roost-Warendin in the east, Douai in the south-east, Cuincy in the south, Lauwin-Planque in the south-west, Esquerchin in the west and Courcelles-lès-Lens in the north-west.

The A21 autoroute runs through the municipality .

history

Flers appears as a place name for the first time in the 10th century. The suffix -en-Escrebieux wasn't added until the 20th century. Coal mining began in the 18th century. It was promoted here in particular by the Compagnie des mines de l'Escarpelle .
