Erchin is a French municipality with 692 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Douai and the Canton of Aniche (until 2015: Canton Arleux ). The inhabitants are called Erchinois .

geography

Erchin is about nine kilometers southeast of Douai as a former mining community in the northern French coalfield. Erchin is surrounded by the neighboring communities Lewarde in the north, Masny in the north and north-east, Monchecourt in the east, Villers-au-Tertre in the south and south-east, Bugnicourt in the south-west, Cantin in the west and south-west and Roucourt in the west and north-west.

The most famous mine, the Fosse Sébastopol , was closed in 1961.
