Hamel is a French municipality with 786 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Douai and the Canton of Aniche (until 2015: Canton Arleux ).
geography
Hamel is about nine kilometers south of Douai on the Sensée . Hamel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Estrées in the north, Arleux in the south and east, Écourt-Saint-Quentin in the south and south-west, Lécluse in the west and Tortequesne in the west and north-west.
