Aix-en-Pévèle is a French commune with 1,220 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Douai and the Canton of Orchies . The inhabitants are called Aixois (es) .

The municipality, originally called Aix , changed its name to the current name Aix-en-Pévèle with the decree N ° 2018-956 of November 5, 2018 .

geography

Aix is located about 20 kilometers northeast of Douai on the border with Belgium . Aix is surrounded by the neighboring communities Mouchin in the north, Brunehaut (Belgium) in the northeast, Rumegies in the east, Saméon in the southeast, Landas in the south and Nomain in the west.

After 1820 in Nomain a first meeting room of the Baptists had arisen in 1821 was built in the village, the first typical Baptist church in France. A little later, other Baptist churches were added in the area, and lively relationships with their members were maintained. The evangelistic endeavors and the increase in the number of people who adopted the Baptist form of the evangelical faith came primarily from Henri Pyt (1796–1835) and Jean-Baptiste Ladam (1789–1846).
