The municipality is located in the valley of the Sensée River , at the intersection of the two canals Canal du Nord and Canal de la Sensée .

The Canal de la Sensée is a section of the large shipping route Dunkirk-Scheldt , which has been expanded for ships with a loading capacity of up to 3,000 tons. The Canal du Nord crosses in Arleux with the Canal de la Sensée.
A railway line runs through Arleux and connects the cities of Douai and Cambrai .
