Hae Phoofolo

Edward Hae Phoofolo (* 1947 in Ladybrand , South Africa ; also Haae Phoofolo ) is an independent politician and lawyer in Lesotho . He was Prime Minister of the country from August 17 to September 14, 1994 . He has been Attorney General since 2018 .

Life

Phoofolo lives in Maseru . In 1988 he was convicted as deputy head of the National Bank of Lesotho for repeatedly smuggling money into Lesotho and sentenced to prison. A revision in 1990 was unsuccessful. In 1994, King Letsie III. With the help of the military, the 1993 democratically elected government under Ntsu Mokhehle ( Basutoland Congress Party ) and the constitution partially suspended. Phoofolo was installed as prime minister. After four weeks he had to hand over the office to Mokhehle under pressure from South Africa and other neighboring countries.

In 2007 Phoofolo was injured in a knife attack. He was planning to run for the opposition All Basotho Convention (ABC) party in the parliamentary elections in May 2012 . However, the ABC top opposed the candidacy and temporarily excluded Phoofolo from the party in December 2011. In return, he sued the party for defamation . In 2012 he worked as a notary for the Anglican Church in Lesotho . In the 2012 elections he won a mandate for the ABC and then became Minister of Justice . In 2015 the ABC had to leave the government. From then on, Phoofolo worked again as a lawyer. In February 2018, he became Attorney General of Lesotho.
