Ladybrand is a city with 4218 inhabitants (as of 2011; census). The neighboring township of Manyatseng had 21,598 inhabitants in 2011.
Ladybrand is located in the municipality of Mantsopa , Motheo District , Free State Province in South Africa on the R26 road . The city is located 138 kilometers east of Bloemfontein and 18 kilometers from Maseru on the border with Lesotho at an altitude of 1,577 meters above sea level.
history
The city was founded in 1867 on the area of the Mauershoek farm . 200 plots were released for immediate settlement. The Voortrekker wanted to use this settlement to secure the areas conquered in the Seqiti War against the Basotho in 1865 against reconquest.
The city is named after Catherina Frederica Brand, the mother of Johannes Henricus Brand , the then President of the Orange Free State .
