Bellac ( Occitan Belac ) is a French village with 3808 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it is the administrative seat of the arrondissement of Bellac and the capital of the canton of Bellac .

history

In the first half of the 10th century, Boso the Elder , Count of La Marche, built a no longer preserved castle on a rock spur above the Vincou . The place Bellac developed here, which was founded in the 12th century by Count Aldebert III. Received city rights. In 1531 Bellac fell to the crown.
