Le Dorat ( Occitan : Le Daurat ) is a French municipality with 1683 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Le Dorat is located in the arrondissement of Bellac and belongs to the canton of Châteauponsac (until 2015: canton Le Dorat ). The inhabitants are called Dorachons .
geography
Le Dorat is located about 45 kilometers north-northwest of Limoges on the Courthoizon . Le Dorat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Oradour-Saint-Genest in the north and west, Dinsac in the north and north-east, Magnac-Laval in the east, Saint-Ouen-sur-Gartempe in the south and Saint-Sornin-la-Marche in the west and south-west .
The former Routes nationales 142 (today's D942), 675 (D675) and 712 run through the municipality .
history
A Saint-Michel church is said to have originally been built here around 950; Around 970 the collegiate chapter was built around the church. During the second Huguenot War , the city was stormed and devastated by the Huguenots on November 2nd, 1567 .
