Aircraft on ground

The term Aircraft On Ground (AOG) or lack of airworthiness comes from the aviation language and describes the condition that an aircraft is not ready to fly for technical reasons, i.e. has to remain on the ground (only applies to commercial flights and on stations).

For aircraft that are defective due to their maintenance program within a maintenance organization, the priority Critical A is used. In the case of overhauls, the urgency is marked with Work Stoppage (WSP).

Such incidents usually lead to delays and delays in air traffic, to lost revenue because passengers cannot be transported, and to angry and dissatisfied customers.

When rectifying such an incident, the aim is to bring the required spare parts and often also the personnel to the defective aircraft as quickly as possible so that the repair can be carried out.

In the case of a pure delivery of goods, “Aircraft On Ground” is used to identify particularly urgent spare parts orders. It should point out to the supplier that without this part a flight ban is imminent or already exists. The shipping unit is also marked as AOG in the logistics area. This prompts the carrier to choose the fastest shipping method, even if the cheapest shipping method is otherwise required. There is no mixing with other orders from the same customer. This is transported particularly quickly by the employees in the transport industry . All branches of the commissioned transport company that are involved in the processing of the shipments are also informed in advance of the status, which is intended to ensure the immediate delivery of the spare part.
