The Autoroute A 35 , a motorway in France , also known as Autoroute des Cigognes (German motorway of the storks ), represents the central north-south axis of Alsace and currently has a total length of 176 kilometers. Use of the A 35 is toll-free.

Seen from the north, the A 35 begins at the first exit after the Franco-German border crossing at Lauterbourg (border with Rhineland-Palatinate , end of the B 9 ) and then mostly runs south to south-west through Alsace, via Strasbourg , Schlettstadt and Colmar , Mulhouse and Basel-Mulhouse Airport to the Swiss border near Saint-Louis. There it goes over the Basel Nordtangente into the Swiss A 3 motorway .

The A 35 is one of the most important traffic connections along the Upper Rhine . The counterpart to the A 35 on the right bank of the Rhine is the A 5 in Germany. The A 35 is part of the European route 25 ( Netherlands - Corsica - Sicily ) and to a small extent between Mulhouse and Basel also the E 60 ( Brittany - Central Asia ).

Planning of the Strasbourg western bypass

A relocation of the A 35 out of the urban area of Strasbourg is planned. It will bypass the city to the west and continue directly from the southern section near Geispolsheim to the north to the triangle of the A 4 / A 35 near Hœrdt (future motorway junction).

Until this line is completed, the A 35 between Strasbourg-Center and Hœrdt will run together with the A 4 , which will continue to Paris .

The motorway between Houssen and Guémar is interrupted, in this area the N 83 expressway has been expanded to four lanes. This is to be expanded into a motorway and become part of the A 35. Once the work is complete, its total length will be 187 km.

Between the junction points Geispolsheim and Obernai , an approximately two kilometer long section was missing until the clearance at the end of 2010.
