Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier ( Breton : Sant-Albin-an-Hiliber ; Gallo : Grand'Saent Aubin ) is a French commune with 3,837 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in the region Brittany . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Rennes and the canton of Fougères-1 . The inhabitants are called Saint-Aubinais .
geography
The municipality is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Rennes and about 50 kilometers south of Mont Saint-Michel . Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier is surrounded by the neighboring communities
- Rives-du-Couesnon with Mézières-sur-Couesnon and Saint-Jean-sur-Couesnon in the north and Saint-Georges-de-Chesné in the northeast,
- Mecé in the east and south-east,
- Livré-sur-Changeon in the southeast,
- Liffré in the south and south-west,
- Gosné and Ercé-près-Liffré in the southwest,
- Gahard to the west and northwest.
The A84 autoroute and the former Routes nationales 12 (today's D812) and 794 (today's D794) run through the municipality .
history
In 1488 there was a battle between the troops of the King of France and the Duchy of Brittany during the guerre folle . Although the Duke of Brittany was supported by his allies England, Aragon and Castile and León, the victory of the royal troops marked the fall of Brittany as an independent duchy and the further expansion of the French kingdom to the west.
