Bécherel ( Breton Begerel ) is a French municipality with 669 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Rennes and the canton of Montauban-de-Bretagne .

City of Books

The community is called the “city of books” because there are 15 bookshops for 660 residents in the village. Book festivals take place several times a year, in particular the Fête du Livre (Festival of Books) on Easter weekend, as well as the “Night of Books” in August.
