La Meziere ( Breton : Magoer ) is a French municipality with 4892 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Rennes and the canton of Melesse . The inhabitants are called Macérien .

geography

La Mézière is located about 15 kilometers north-northwest of Rennes . La Mézière is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vignoc in the north, Montreuil-le-Gast in the northeast, Melesse in the east, La Chapelle-des-Fougeretz in the south, Pacé in the southwest and Gévezé in the west.

The former route nationale 137 (today: D137) runs through the municipality .

history

The place was first mentioned as Macéria in the 13th century. Both a menhir (called The White Rock - La Roche Blanche) and the silices revealed by archaeological studies indicate a settlement since the Neolithic. In 1597 numerous people were killed in a conflagration.
