Iffendic ( Breton : Ilfentig ) is a French municipality with 4469 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Rennes and the canton of Montfort-sur-Meu . The inhabitants are called Iffendicois (es) .
geography
Iffendic is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Rennes on the river Meu . Iffendic is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Boisgervilly , Saint-Uniac and Montauban-de-Bretagne in the north, Bédée and La Nouaye in the northeast, Montfort-sur-Meu in the east, Talensac in the southeast, Monterfil and Saint-Péran in the south, Paimpont and Saint -Malon-sur-Mel in the south-west, Saint-Gonlay and Saint-Maugan in the west and Saint-Onen-la-Chapelle in the north-west.
history
The place gained an early strategic importance through the intersection of two important Roman roads from Corseul to Nantes and from Rennes to Carhaix.
