The Canton of Montfort-sur-Meu (Breton Canton Moñforzh ) is a French canton in the Arrondissement Rennes , in Ille-et-Vilaine and the region Bretagne ; its main town is Montfort-sur-Meu .

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, eleven municipalities belonged to the canton of Montfort-sur-Meu (until 1993 canton of Montfort). With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 15. In 2015, the Clayes commune moved to the Melesse canton , and the La Chapelle-Thouarault and Le Verger communes to the Le Rheu canton . In addition to the 8 remaining communes in the old canton of Montfort-sur-Meu, 7 of the 8 communes in the previous canton of Plélan-le-Grand were added.

The old canton of Montfort-sur-Meu consisted of eleven communities on an area of ​​213.27 km². These were: Bédée , Breteil , La Chapelle-Thouarault , Clayes , Iffendic , Montfort-sur-Meu (main town), La Nouaye , Pleumeleuc , Saint-Gonlay , Talensac and Le Verger .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Anne-Françoise Courteille (DVG) / Christophe Martins (PRG) won against Frédérique Porcher / Xavier Rodier (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 73.21% (turnout: 52.60%) .
