The canton of Janzé (Breton canton Gentieg ) is a French canton in the arrondissements of Rennes and Fougères-Vitré , in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is Janzé .

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, six municipalities belonged to the canton of Janzé. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 10 in 2015. The municipalities of Boistrudan and Piré-sur-Seiche moved to the canton of Châteaugiron . To the remaining 4 communes of the old canton of Janzé, 3 of the previous 7 communes of the canton of Bruz , 2 of the previous 10 communes of the canton of Châteaugiron and the commune of Vern-sur-Seiche from the previous canton of Rennes-Sud-Est were added.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Jacques Daviau / Françoise Sourdrille (both PS) won against Jean-Marc Lecerf / Laurence Mercier (both Union du Center) with 50.35% of the votes (turnout: 48.44%) .
