The canton Redon (Breton canton Redon ) is a French canton in the arrondissement Redon , in the département Ille-et-Vilaine and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is Redon .

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, eight municipalities belonged to the canton of Redon. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 16. In addition to the previous 6 communes of the old canton of Redon, all 9 communes of the canton Pipriac and the commune of Messac from the canton Bain-de-Bretagne were added. As a result of the merger of the municipalities of Guipry and Messac, the number of municipalities fell to 15 on January 1, 2016.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the Franck Pichot (PS) / Solène Michenot (DVG) team won against Vincent Bourguet / Céline Motel (both UDI ) with a share of the vote of 52.84% (turnout: 47.15%).
