La Chapelle-de-Brain ( Breton : Chapel-Bran ) is a French municipality with 969 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Redon and the canton of Redon . The inhabitants are called Branichapellois .
geography
La Chapelle-de-Brain is on the border with the Loire-Atlantique department . The vilaine forms the southern municipal boundary. La Chapelle-de-Brain is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Renac in the north and west, Langon in the east and northeast, Massérac in the south and southeast and Avessac in the south and southwest.
history
In 1875 the municipality of La Chapelle-Saint-Melaine was detached from the former municipality of Brain . In 1958, the municipality of Brain was renamed Brain-sur-Vilaine . In 1976, both communities were merged again under the current name.
