Guichen ( Breton : Gwizien ) is a French municipality with 8568 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . Guichen belongs to the Arrondissement of Redon and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Guichen .

geography

Guichen is located on the Vilaine , into which the Canut River flows. Guichen is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Goven in the north and north-west, Bruz in the north and north-east, Laillé in the east, Bourg-des-Comptes in the south-east, Saint-Senoux in the south, Guignen south-west and Lassy .

The former route nationale 177 runs through the municipality from Redon to Rennes . The place has a train station on the Rennes – Redon line .

history

In 851 the Bretons defeated Charles the Bald in the Battle of Jengland. In 1847 the name of the parish was changed from Fougeray to Grand-Fougeray.
