The canton Guichen (Breton canton Gwizien ) is a French canton in the Arrondissement Redon , in the Département Ille-et-Vilaine and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is Guichen .

history

The canton was established on February 15, 1790 under the name of Canton Bourg-des-Comptes. It has had its current name since 1801. From 1801 to 2015, eight municipalities belonged to the canton. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 16. The municipality of Laillé moved to the canton of Bruz . All 9 municipalities of the canton Maure-de-Bretagne were added to the remaining 7 municipalities in the old canton of Guichen .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Roger Morazin (PS) / Michèle Motel (DVG) won against Louis Gilois / Véronique Turpin (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 68.08% (turnout: 52.68%).
