The canton of La Guerche-de-Bretagne (Breton canton Gwerc'h-Breizh ) is a French canton in the arrondissement Fougères-Vitré , in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is La Guerche-de-Bretagne .
history
The canton was established on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, twelve municipalities belonged to the canton of La Guerche-de-Bretagne (until 1889 canton of La Guerche). With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 31. In addition to the previous communes of the old canton of La Guerche-de-Bretagne, all 9 communes of the canton Argentré-du-Plessis and all 10 communes of the previous canton of Retiers were added .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Aymeric Massiet du Biest / Monique Sockath (both UMP / LR) won against Virginie Dufort / Marcel Lefrancq (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 70.73% (turnout: 46.98%) .
