Argentré-du-Plessis ( Breton : Argantred-ar-Genkiz ) is a French municipality with 4396 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Fougères-Vitré and the canton of La Guerche-de-Bretagne . The inhabitants are called Argentréens .
geography
Argentré-du-Plessis is surrounded by the neighboring communities Erbrée in the north, Mondevert in the northeast, Le Pertre in the east, Brielles in the southeast, Gennes-sur-Seiche and Saint-Germain-du-Pinel in the south, Domalain in the southwest and Étrelles in the west and northwest. The national route 157 runs through the municipality . There is a small lake landscape in the municipality. The lakes Étang de la Verrerie , Étang du Moulin-Neuf and Étang du Moulin aux Moines are the most important. The small river Hill flows through the parish , which also drains the lakes.
history
The area was ruled by the von Plessis family, whose castle was built around the 15th century. In 1795 the battle of Argentré took place here between the Republicans and the Catholics of Brittany loyal to the king (the so-called Chouans ), in which the Chouans remained victorious.
