Bazouges-la-Pérouse ( Breton : Bazeleg-ar-Veineg ) is a French municipality with 1808 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Fougères-Vitré and the canton of Antrain . The inhabitants are called Bazougeais .

Bazouges-la-Pérouse is about 30 kilometers west-northwest of Fougères . Bazouges-la-Pérouse is surrounded by the neighboring communities
- Trans-la-Forêt in the north and north-west,
- Vieux-Viel in the north,
- Val-Couesnon with La Fontenelle in the northeast and Tremblay in the east,
- Rimou in the south and southeast,
- Saint-Rémy-du-Plain in the south,
- Marcillé-Raoul in the southwest,
- Noyal-sous-Bazouges in the west,
- Cuguen to the west and northwest.
history
The area of Bazouges-la-Pérouse has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, which excavations have shown.
The parish is first mentioned in the 7th century.
At the 11th century the city had market rights and a local nobility. The two churches faced each other in the center. Shortly thereafter, a royal court and a domain administration were established.
The city fortifications were built from 1588 . In the 16th century, Bazouges had over 5,000 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and trade. The prosperous development was slowed down by the Huguenot Wars and later by the Revolution .
