Chauvigné ( Breton : Kelvinieg ) is a French municipality with 845 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Fougères-Vitré and the canton of Antrain . The inhabitants are called Chauvignéens .
geography
Chauvigné is about 19 kilometers west-northwest of Fougères . Chauvigné is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Val-Couesnon with Tremblay in the north, Saint-Marc-le-Blanc in the east, Le Tiercent in the southeast, Saint-Christophe-de-Valains in the south, Vieux-Vy-sur-Couesnon in the southwest and Romazy in the West.
history
Prehistoric finds have been made on the territory of the municipality .
During the Roman Empire , the place was on the road from Rennes via Avranches and Corseul to Jublains .
The place and the church of Chauvigné are first mentioned in the 11th century. A local nobility with the name Gradelon existed at this time.
From the end of the 19th century until the 1990s, the population halved. The almost exclusive dependence on agriculture was clearly noticeable. Only the granite quarries were added as a new source of income.
