Mayenne is located on the Mayenne River , hence the name. It is about 230 km west of Paris.
Buildings worth seeing
- Mayenne Castle with five towers from the 13th century; in the 19th century it served as a prison
- Notre Dame church; built around 1100, with arcades and pillars from the 12th century
