Saint-Calais-du-Desert is a French municipality with 387 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Mayenne in the region Pays de la Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mayenne and the canton of Villaines-la-Juhel (until 2015: canton of Couptrain ).
geography
Saint-Calais-du-Désert is located about 37 kilometers northeast of Mayenne on the Mayenne River , into which the Doucelle flows here. The parish is part of the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park . Saint-Calais-du-Désert is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Pallu in the north and north-west, Lignières-Orgères in the north and north-east, Pré-en-Pail-Saint-Samson in the south and east, and Saint-Aignan-de-Couptrain in the south and southwest as well as Couptrain and Neuilly-le-Vendin in the west.
The former Routes nationales 176 (today's D176), which was identical to Route nationale 807 here , runs through the southwest of the municipality .
