The municipality belongs to the canton of Lassay-les-Châteaux (until 2015: canton of Le Horps ) and the arrondissement of Mayenne . The inhabitants are called chapellois .

La Chapelle-au-Riboul is about 60 kilometers northwest of Le Mans on the Aron . La Chapelle-au-Riboul is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hardanges in the north and east, Le Ham in the north-east, Champgenéteux in the south-east, Hambers in the south, Grazay in the south-west and Marcillé-la-Ville in the west and north-west.
