Until the nationwide reorganization of the cantons in March 2015, the canton of Lassay-les-Châteaux consisted of the six municipalities of Lassay-les-Châteaux (main town), Le Housseau-Brétignolles , Rennes-en-Grenouilles , Saint-Julien-du-Terroux , and Sainte -Marie-du-Bois and Thubœuf . Its layout corresponded to an area of 111.31 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5316.

history
The canton was created in 1801 from the merger of the cantons of Lassay (now Lassay-les-Châteaux), La Chapelle-Moches and Thubœuf. The communities Brétignolles and Le Housseau (today Le Housseau-Brétignolles) and Rennes-en-Grenouilles belonged to the Orne department in whole or in part until 1832.
