history
The canton emerged in its current form in 1801 from the amalgamation of municipalities, which until then became the cantons of Connée (today Saint-Martin-de-Connée), Juvigné, Le Bourgneuf-la-Fôret, Loiron and Saint-Ouën-des-Toits belonged.
