history

The area belonged to the canton of Laval from 1793-1801. This was divided into the cantons Laval-Ouest and Laval-Est in 1801. In 1973 the French government separated the urban area even further and the new canton Laval-Nord-Est split off from Laval-Est. Another territorial reform in 1982 led to the separation of Laval-Saint-Nicolas from Laval-Est. Thus, the canton existed from 1982 to 2015.
