He was completely in the northeast of the department of Mayenne and bordered to the north and east by the Orne department , on the southeast by the Sarthe , in the south on the canton of Villaines-la-Juhel and the west and northwest on the canton Couptrain .

history
The canton was created in 1801 from the merger of the cantons of La Poôté (today Saint-Pierre-des-Nids) and Pré-en-Pail (until 1801 Prez-en-Pail).
