Until the nationwide reorganization of the cantons in March 2015, the canton of Gorron consisted of the eleven municipalities of Brecé , Carelles , Châtillon-sur-Colmont , Colombiers-du-Plessis , Gorron (main town), Hercé , Lesbois , Levaré , Saint-Aubin-Fosse- Louvain , Saint-Mars-sur-Colmont and Vieuvy . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​190.00 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5312.

history

The canton in its current form was created in 1801 from the merger of the previous canton of Gorron and parts of the cantons of Fougerolles, Georges-Buttavent (today Saint-Georges-Buttavent), Montaudin, Oisseau and Saint-Denys-de-Gastines (today Saint-Denis- de-Gastines).
