Plouigneau ( Breton Plouigno ) is a French municipality with 5,083 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Finistère in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Morlaix and the canton of Plouigneau .
It was created as the Commune nouvelle of the same name with effect from January 1, 2019 through the amalgamation of the previous communities of Plouigneau and Le Ponthou , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Plouigneau.
The menhir of Creac'h Edern stands on the edge of the “Route de Kerscoff” road in Plouigneau.

geography
The community is about twelve kilometers east of Morlaix . The municipal area is crossed by the motorway-like national road N12 and the parallel railway line. The rivers Dourduff in the north, Douron in the east and Tromorgant in the west drain to the English Channel .
Neighboring municipalities are: Lanmeur in the north, Plouégat-Guérand and Trémel in the northeast, Plouégat-Moysan in the east, Botsorhel in the southeast, Lannéanou in the south, Plougonven in the southwest, Morlaix in the west and Garlan in the northwest.
