Plounévez-Lochrist ( Breton Gwinevez ) is a commune with 2,291 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Finistère in the region of Brittany . In terms of the area of the municipality, it is the largest municipality in the canton of Plouescat .
geography
Plounévez-Lochrist is located in northwest France in northwest Brittany on the English Channel , about 33 kilometers northeast of Brest , about 29 kilometers northwest of Morlaix , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement , and 5.8 kilometers southwest of Plouescat , the capital of the canton on a middle Height of 48 meters above sea level . The Mairie stands at a height of 56 meters. Neighboring communities of Plounévez-Lochrist are Tréflez in the west, Plouescat in the northeast, Lanhouarneau in the south and Plouider in the southwest. Culture and sights
The so-called Rock of Kernic, a hill near the beach, stands as Site Inscrit ( 'natural monument') under monument protection . In the hill there are ruins of fortification buildings from the Second World War (1939-1945).
The parish of Plounévez-Lochrist belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of La Baie du Kernic in the deanery of St Pol de Léon of the Quimper diocese .

There are controlled designations of origin (AOC) for onions (Oignon de Roscoff ) and Protected Geographical Indications (IGP) for poultry (Volailles de Bretagne) , buckwheat flour (Farine de blé noir de Bretagne - Gwinizh du Breizh) and cider (Cidre de Bretagne ) in the municipality and cider breton) . The pink onions from the Roscoff area are said to have been around since the 17th century.
