Henvic ( Breton Henvig ) is a municipality with 1351 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Finistère department in Brittany in France .

history

The name of the place can be derived from two roots. In Celtic , hen is the word for old . The second root is Latin for vicus, meaning village . This suggested that Henvic's settlement history goes back to the Gallic-Roman period . The first written mention of the name as Henguic (k) , however, dates from the year 1440. In the same period, the current form Henvic is also found for the first time . Since there are no archaeological findings from earlier times, it can be assumed, despite the name, that the community was founded in the Middle Ages.
