geography

history

The name of the community is Gallo-Roman - but there are no traces of settlement from this time. The noble families who administered the place were first the Le Châtelier, then the Villeblanche and from the 16th century the Montmorency. Within a few decades after 1789, Éréac changed assignments several times. The parish was part of the Broons district from 1793 to 1801. It was also part of the canton of Langourla from 1793 to 1801, then from 1801 to 1821 of the canton of Merdrignac and has been part of the canton of Broons since 1821 . From 1801 to 1821, Éréac was administratively part of the Arrondissement Loudéac and since then part of the Arrondissement Dinan. First mention of Éréac as Yriac in a deed of donation from the Abbey of Saint-Malo in 1330.

The increasing mechanization of agriculture and the high number of those who died in the First World War led to a drop in the number of inhabitants to the lows of recent times.
