Ploufragan is a commune with 11,546 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Brieuc and the canton of Ploufragan , of which it is the main town (chef-lieu). The residents call themselves Ploufraganois .
geography
The municipality is located in the agglomeration southwest of Saint-Brieuc . Neighboring communities are:
- Plérin in the north,
- Saint-Brieuc in the northeast,
- Trégueux in the southeast,
- Saint-Julien in the south,
- Plaine-Haute in the southwest,
- Saint-Donan to the west as well
- La Méaugon and Trémuson in the northwest.
The river Gouët , which is dammed here by the Barrage de Saint Barthélémy, runs along the western municipal boundary . The river then curves north of Saint-Brieuc and then flows into the English Channel . In the municipality there is a central ridge, so that small watercourses in the west drain to the dammed Gouët, while in the east the Gouédic brook collects the watercourses, crosses the town of Saint-Brieuc and only reaches the Gouët in the estuary section.
Transport links
The main road links that are leading out of Saint-Brieuc, the department roads D45 (towards Saint-Donan) and D790 (direction Saint-Julien). Two railway lines also cross the municipality: one leads west to Brest , the other south via Auray to Vannes .
